Missionary, Labor and Delivery Nurse, and Quest Alumnus
"I came to Quest as a freshman in high school because a friend invited me. It was the first place that I heard about a God who loved me. In Core, I began to understand God’s grace, how I didn’t need to earn it, and I eventually accepted Christ. After college, I spent 6 months in Sakila, Tanzania teaching English at the primary school and Bible college. When I returned, I came back to Quest, this time as an adult leader. I recently graduated from Johns Hopkins School of Nursing where I studied global and public health. I hope to return to Tanzania for medical missions work, to bring healing, physically and spiritually, to the least of these."
Turmoil to Peace
"I had a good childhood, but when I was drafted into the Army for the Vietnam War, I started walking down a road where only Jesus could bring me back. Decades later, struggling from post-traumatic stress syndrome, seeking treatment from the Veterans Administration, living on Social Security, and renting just a room out from someone’s basement, I could not take care of myself. I was broken and my family was broken. Then, in 2011, my daughter died in a car wreck, and the experience brought me to my knees. I dipped into the worst depression that I had ever experienced.
Although I didn’t know it, my life was about to change for the better. I had been going to a number of different churches that did not meet my needs. Six months later, I met a gentleman from Seneca Creek who encouraged me to come and check out his church. I felt welcomed and at home here and I enjoyed worshipping God and felt uplifted in the public worship. The messages have really encouraged me in my relationship with Jesus as I learn more about Him and his Word. I am finding an opportunity to give back by volunteering and I have also found a really great supportive group of guys in our Thursday Men’s study with whom I can share my struggles, find encouragement, and be inspired.
I am slowly but surely seeing my relationships with my family restored, and am enjoying the blessings of 7 grandchildren as I grow in my restored relationship with Jesus. While we still have struggles in this world, Jesus has led me from a life of turmoil and strife to one where I find peace in him every day."
